Inspiration

talking points the jackbox game, and polymarket!

What it does

ever had a problem with making a decision? you can now bet on it! instead of just spinning a wheel, it's a whole prediction market with your confidence on the line.

the host asks a question and everyone joins from their phone by scanning a qr code. each person submits one option, then:

  • gut call: tap the options you believe in. tap more = more sure
  • the market: spend chips buying shares while everyone takes turns pitching their option out loud... with a silly handicap (pirate voice, only questions, etc.)
  • second thoughts: heard the pitches? tap again to change your mind
  • the closing bell: each option's score is the room's confidence averaged with its market price, plus a little noise and a chaos card. the highest score wins, so a clear favorite almost always takes it, but close races can flip

claude narrates the whole thing like a sports/finance commentator: a first take on the lineup, live market ticker, reactions to every pitch, an analyst report at the end, and a personal note on everyone's phone.

How we built it

the frontend is just javascript without any framework. the backend uses spacetimedb, where it holds everything, including the claude narrator.

the ui is based on the figma wireframes, where i aimed for a collaborative, whiteboard-ish look.

Challenges we ran into

the main challenge that i struggled with was trying to get the whole flow to feel engaging and cohesive, the first idea was the wheel spin determines the outcome of the game, which was too randomized. further changes were made so the choices and decisions made during the game would actually count towards the outcome

Accomplishments that we're proud of

the entire backend (game logic, timers, the market and an ai narrator) is a single spacetimedb module. the frontend is just static files.

What we learned

this is the first time ive ever used spacetimedb, and also included claude in a project.

What's next for second thoughts

more gambling
