Inspiration

As both computer scientists and nature lovers, we wanted to create a way to connect our two interests. We decided that an easy-to-access database of flora and fauna in Seattle would be a good start.

What it does

Our app's intended functionality is a database of flora and fauna in the Seattle area. Users can either search for a specific plant or animal, or they can select a location and see common plants and animals found in that area.

How we built it

We planned to use ReactJS to develop the app and we used Figma for a proof of concept.

Challenges we ran into

Unfortunately, we ran into several issues with React and were unable to produce a working demo of the mobile app. However, we were able to create a Figma to show what we wanted the app to look like.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to conceive and conceptualize an idea in a short period of time.

What we learned

We were unexperienced with React Native technologies but we learned how to go through the product development process.

What's next for Seattle Wildlife Identifier

We want to hopefully expand our database to include places outside of Seattle and the animals and plants that live there as well. In addition, maybe adding a feature to detect the user's location and inform them of wildlife near them would be nice.
