Inspiration
Our journey began at a nautical-themed hackathon, driven by a passion to contribute to community welfare, with a focus on enhancing patient safety on the high seas.
What it does
SeaSOS is an all-encompassing solution tailored for the maritime industry, addressing onboarding, staff management, and emergency protocols for cruises and ships. It's designed to streamline operations and ensure swift, organized responses in emergencies.
How we built it
Developed in a 25-hour coding marathon, we harnessed FastAPI for backend services, Redis and Redis Stack for data management, and AWS services like EC2, Cognito, and API Gateway for cloud infrastructure. Our frontend shines with a Swift-based iOS app integrated with Unity for AR experiences, guiding passengers to the nearest exits during emergencies.
Challenges we ran into
Embarking on iOS app development presented initial setup hurdles. We navigated through breaking changes in the latest FastAPI release and devised algorithms for efficient route calculation during time-critical evacuations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're especially proud of our innovative use of Redis beyond caching, as a robust data store, and our successful foray into AR-enabled iOS applications.
What we learned
The project underscored the importance of patient safety. We gained insights into the unseen complexities behind app development and the value of microservices in enhancing user experience.
What's next for SeaSOS
Looking ahead, we aim to integrate SeaSOS with cruise enterprise solutions, evolving into a super app for nautical necessities at both personal and enterprise levels. We plan to expand compatibility with wearable technology, augmenting our commitment to safety and convenience.
