I was inspired by my inability to find a candidate for a job opening in my company. We were working with a temp agency and they kept sending us the wrong candidates. And then I listed the position and keep getting responses from wrong candidates.

Our tool helps us chat with software developers about job opportunities and where these are located

How we built it

We built the chatbot by iterating with JavaScript PHP and Chatfuel APl. We created an interactive chat experience for software developers to find attractive listings and talk with angency representative about the openings. In addition, the users are able to practice mock interviews, a very important skill for a job seekers

What it does

The chatbot gives software developers the opportunity to navigate through job listings that are provided by the chatbot. The user then calls or requests a callback to get in touch with an agent from SearchProsUS in order to process her application for the listing they like. After the user has submitted his resume or CV to the agent ( currently submission happens via email) the user can use the Chatbot to prepare themselves for interviews by answering mock interview questions provided by the chatbot. Questions for the mock interview are changed weekly so that users can practice thier skills and get presented with more challenges with regards to how they present themselves for future interviewers.

Challenges we ran into

We faced several challenges while building our Chatbot. Our first challenge was identifying which tasks needed to be automated ( eg, tasks performed by the bot) , and which tasks should be completed by the user. Our second challenge was geographical distance between the team members. My partner and I are located in two different continents( North America and Africa) and so when one of us was up the other was sleeping. This sometimes created communication challenges, but we overcame them and learned to manage these limitations

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Firstly, we are extremely proud of coming together as a team. We are two adults that just met on Facebook Messenger. We are located in two very distinct parts of the world and we still manage to communicate well together despite time zone changes. Also we are extremely proud that even the diversity backgrounds such as our differences in gender, age and cultural backgrounds, we were able to work together and divide tasks well according to skill set. We are extremely proud that we built a functional prototype that receives information from software developers that is then used to help them land a tech job. We created a tool that could transform lives by assisting aspiring software developers in thier job searches.

What we learned

We learned many lessons while working on this chatbot. I believe the most important lesson that we learned is that diversity in skillset and backgrounds can actually be an asset to a team working together. Diversity in ideas and skillset when properly utilized can be important and invaluable to a team .We also learned how valuable technology can be to tackle important problems facing our society and that we can actually tackle world problems with tech tools.Moreover we loved the experience how a platform like Facebook Messenger connect two people who have never met , living in different parts of the world with different backgrounds can come together and build a solution together.This process demonstrates the usefulness of technology and how it change lives and empower people .

We want to continue to grow SearchProsUS and monetize it and make it a viable job search solution for aspiring software developers all over the world . We want to continue to grow our Chatbot , improve it , test it in real world situations and help aspiring software developers land thier dream jobs.
