Inspiration
When we went to the “Getting to know NCR APIs” workshop, we were inspired to create an app that addressed some of the problems faced by NCR and its customers with the tools NCR offered. We wanted to reduce the risk of fraud and reduce the number of losses for banks which were the two NCR problem statements we were targeting.
What it does
SearchLight crowdsources user information on stolen credit cards and the last place that they went before they began to receive fraudulent transactions. This way, others will be able to see exactly which places they will be at the highest risk for getting their information stolen.
How we built it
We used NCRs APIs to pull relevant account information from the Digital Banking API on things like the users account information and recent transactions. We the used the DataStax Cassandra database to store information about the fraudulent transactions and built the whole application in React Native. Mockups were made using the NCR design system in Figma.
Challenges we ran into
We had a lot of issues at first getting the NCR APIs to work just right for our use case and also some of us hadn't use React Native as much as others so there was a bit of a learning curve on how to get certain features working.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a fully functional app!
What we learned
A ton about the different technologies used.
What's next for SearchLight
We would hope to see this project be taken further and eventually deployed into an urban setting similarly to the Citizen app to see if it could really be impactful.
