Search2Learn is a search engine that navigates through open courseware websites to find appropriate matches for searched courses. In this project, we used MIT Open Courseware exclusively as a platform for our work. Compiling every course in pages a(1) to a(n), a(i) represents the homepage for a course. We computed course rank as a combination of 2 factors. First, we determined the difficulty of the course by measuring the pace of the class with temporal analysis (comparing the amount of time students need to spend finishing courses with videos, assignments, etc). We then analyzed completeness, weighting the courses according to how "complete" they are. For example, courses with more videos hold higher weight than courses with just lecture notes and exams. Our goal with Search2Learn is to expand it into a full open courseware search engine, where students can go to search up on topics and find appropriate courses.
