Inspiration
We are inspired to streamline the healthcare transition process. Working in the field, data entry errors happen too often and they get in the way of care delivery. In seeing that, we want to solve this challenge and make care more efficient.
What it does
For a new patient, our app collects their information, creates an account for them, and displays their information so they can see it and edit it accordingly. For a patient who already has an account, the app allows the patient to log in and view their information. The app also allows a patient to export their information to an Apple Wallet card, so they can carry it around on their phone for a healthcare provider to scan.
How I built it
We built a React app with Material UI styling that is a proof of concept for our idea. The app has a home page, a login page, a sign up page, and a “My Information Page” that displays patient information. We also created an Apple Wallet sample card that displays patient information and can be scanned by a healthcare provider to collect patient information.
Challenges I ran into
We ran into challenges initially in narrowing the scope of the problem. We knew we wanted to tackle patient identification and data entry in a healthcare setting, but initially did not know what specific subproblem we wanted to solve. After lots of discussion and research on Friday and Saturday morning, we decided to tackle the problem of minimizing the use of paper forms in a clinic setting, since we felt like this was a significant problem with a valuable solution that we could create. On the technical side, the main challenge was learning React and creating the app’s structure (i.e., linking pages and buttons). We also had some issues in styling some of the pages and features through Material UI.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We refined our idea into a feasible and valuable product for healthcare We have collaborated well and learned many things from each side We perfected our pitch with input from mentors and organizers
What I learned
To better healthcare, I learned a little about coding. Although I still cannot code myself, I can communicate my ideas with coders in order to create a new product. Synthesizing ideas with other individuals in different fields was eye opening. I learned that each individual brought a unique perspective towards a common goal.
What's next for SeamlessCare
We are looking forward to integrating with medical forms and insurance information to further expedite the care delivery process. Stay tuned for developments!
