Inspiration

Growing up helping scale two manufacturing businesses, the production documentation problem was personal. Endless emails with factories in China, Vietnam, and Thailand to communicate a single design change. Paying freelancers hundreds of dollars per style to write tech packs. Watching weeks disappear into Illustrator, Excel, and InDesign before a single sample was cut. Every software developer has Cursor. Fashion designers have nothing. Seam fixes that.

What it does

Describe a garment or upload a sketch. Seam generates the design, produces a technical flat, writes the spec sheet, and exports a manufacturer-ready PDF tech pack. Under 10 minutes. No Illustrator. No freelancer. No three-week wait.

How we built it

Node-based infinite canvas with React Flow. Gemini 2.5 Flash for image generation and technical drawings. Gemini 3 Flash for spec sheets, measurement validation, manufacturer matching, and Pip, our in-canvas streaming chat assistant. Full stack on Lovable with jsPDF for client-side export.

Challenges we ran into

Getting technical flats precise enough for a manufacturer to cut from. Preventing hallucinated measurements in spec sheets, a wrong number is worse than a missing one. And staying focused: Seam could be ten different products. Keeping everything in service of one output, the tech pack, was the hardest design decision we made.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A full pipeline from prompt or uploaded image to manufacturer-ready PDF, built in ~24 hours. Spec sheet generation detailed enough that a technical designer would recognize it as legitimate. And an interface that feels like a design tool, not a documentation tool.

What we learned

The bottleneck in fashion production was never creativity. It was always the translation layer between a designer's vision and what a factory needs to act on it. AI is finally good enough to automate that translation. We learned how to make it trustworthy enough to actually use.

What's next for Seam

Manufacturer network with verified factory data. Real-time collaboration between designers and technical teams. A fine-tuned technical drawing model trained specifically on garment flats. The operating system for independent fashion production.
