Inspiration
My teammate showed me a video of Alaskan sea lions fighting over who gets to be on buoy. That was the original concept of the game. Sea lions fighting over a buoy. Then the idea pivoted to what if we were a restaurant owner and we get help from a seal.
What it does
You run a restaurant that attracts zero customers because you're just that bad. You save a seal from dying and for your kindness, the seal repays you with new recipes.
How we built it
We used the Godot game engine to build the entire game.
Challenges we ran into
The tileset was tricky to work with. Godot spoils you with so many options that it ended up backfiring on us. We worked on the tilemaps separately and realized we weren't using the same scale and tile sizes two hours before the deadline. In the end, we were frantically able to make things work out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating an entire game during a fixed amount of time.
What we learned
Working under pressure and delivering within a set amount of time.
What's next for Seal of Approval
We'll probably add more menu items in the future and make the progression slower so that the player can enjoy this game for longer. The game demo we presented was intentionally shortened to accomodate for the short period of time we had. We will definitely update this game to live up to the glorious idea we had in mind.
