Inspiration
Inspired by Raft, this project brings ocean survival to VR. We focus on streamlined mechanics to deliver an accessible, simplified experience tailored specifically for casual players.
What it does
- Cast adrift on a boundless sea, you must adapt to a dynamic, ever-changing world where survival is key. Scavenge resources to craft, build, and upgrade your raft, transforming a simple raft into a fortress capable of conquering the ocean.
- Designed for VR, the game delivers a deeply immersive experience, blending the satisfying thrill of domination with the raw beauty of nature. Between challenges, enjoy moments of tranquility by engaging in rich activities amidst a vibrant, colorful underwater ecosystem. Master the waves and find your peace in this ultimate seafaring adventure.
How we built it
- Unreal Engine 5 serves as the core development tool, supported by auxiliary software such as Blender, Substance Painter, and Photoshop for generating assets.
Challenges we ran into
- Maintain a smooth and stable frame rate (FPS).
- Optimize draw calls for a large number of structures/buildings.
- Easily scalable and modular building system.
- Save system capable of storing the complete state of all structures.
- Shader instruction optimization.
- Infinite water surface rendering with displacement waves.
- Simulated underwater visual effects.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We have successfully addressed all the challenges listed above
What we learned
- Ability to create and optimize user experiences for Quest standalone devices.
- Performance optimization tailored for Meta hardware.
- Optimized and streamlined the development workflow.
- Expanded knowledge and expertise within the professional field.
What's next for Seabound
- Add an underwater ecosystem.
- Introduce new survival support tools/equipment.
- Potential future integration of a CO-OP multiplayer mode.
