Inspiration

One of our team members was out for a beach stroll and noticed the beach was littered and a lot of the aquatic animals such as small fishes were out on the sand, dead. It was visible that this event had occurred because of the garbage thrown near the shore of the beach by tourists and visitors.

What it does

We believe, than rather than bringing new ideas to the table that may be hard to implement, we should use our resources in educating people about the already existing ideas in the world that are being implemented but do not have the recognition they require to actually work and make a difference. We even did a survey the week before the hackathon and the results showed that a lot of people are not even educated about the impacts of climate change or even what climate change is and the different types of ecosystems it affects. Our PWA will help educate people about climate change and how it affects the aquatic ecosystem and marine life. With help of blogs, articles, a gallery of pictures, and an activities tab that suggests sustainable activities in the person's locality will help spread awareness about this topic which requires attention in a world where human activities are causing global warming and further impacting the ecosystems of the world badly.

How we built it

We built a PWA on the Good Barber website with minimal HTML. Canva was also used to create the final video. A lot of research was done at the back-end and we took out time to verify it so we are able to present reliable information to our customers.

Challenges we ran into

Our team members have very minimal coding experience and therefore we had to find external resources such as Good Barber to help us create a PWA.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

How we were able to collaborate as all our team members were from different countries. As we moved forward in the hackathon, our time management got better as we had calls every 6-7 hours and reviewed the work that was done individually in that time gap.

What we learned

We read a lot of studies about climate change to educate ourselves a bit more about this topic. The knowledge about the topic helped us think more deeply about the solution and future plans to tackle such issues.

What's next for Sea Strike

We hope to release a proper app and website in the near future. We had very less time to implement the PWA and believe that with extra time, we can make implement the idea as a big project.

Our Team

We are a team of high school students, two of us are in grade 12 and one in grade 11. Our team got together after one of the members found out about this hackathon and shared it on social media profiles, the other team members were fascinated with it and reached out to her, shared their experience in this field and how they are actively part of groups that promote the importance of climate change and its impact. After a few discussions about the topic, we formed a team that would focus on educating people and promoting climate change in our communities. We are a 3 member team. Since, we were all participating from different countries, we had to collaborate and manage our time properly. We used to conduct a group call every 6-7 hours to review the work everyone had done individually in the time gap mentioned before and discuss the next steps forward. Anoushka Chowdhry, our team leader has experience making PWA's on external sites and designs on Canva, therefore she worked on the PWA while the other two members provided her the information that has been presented in it. Gazal Goswami, our other team member worked on the research that will be later presented in the PWA and helped out with the final video. Finally, Anushka Singh helped with the editing of the final video. Our team worked very hard to bring our idea to life. We believe our collaboration and quick responsiveness made this project possible.
