Inspiration
The idea for Sea Blue Aid came from the urgent need to support survivors of acid attacks, who face immense physical, emotional, and social challenges. Reading stories of courage and resilience inspired me to create a platform that connects survivors with resources, guidance, and a supportive community.
As a beginner participating in my first hackathon, I undertook this project entirely on my own, dedicating 8–10 hours daily over several days. Managing design, coding, and deployment solo made the project challenging, but also deeply rewarding, turning empathy into tangible action.
What I Learned
Through this project, I gained experience in:
Frontend and backend integration
Accessibility and user-centered design
Structuring information clearly for ease of use
Handling interactive elements like donation forms and story showcases
Managing a full workflow independently taught me problem-solving, task prioritization, and iterative development, all while navigating the challenges of my first hackathon.
How I Built It
I built Sea Blue Aid using:
HTML5 & CSS3 for structure and styling
Vanilla JavaScript for interactivity and form validation
Responsive design techniques for mobile and desktop users
GitHub Pages for hosting a live demo
The project includes:
Donation and contact forms with validation
Survivor story showcase for inspiration and awareness
Resource links and guidance sections
I also created supporting visuals in Canva and developed everything in VS Code, putting in long, focused hours daily to ensure the project was polished, functional, and impactful.
Challenges & Solutions
Key challenges included:
Cross-browser compatibility — solved through extensive testing and debugging
Responsive layout for all devices — addressed with mobile-first design and CSS media queries
Creating emotionally impactful content — refined through careful wording and concise storytelling
Integrating CSS and JavaScript across multiple pages — managed by modular code organization and iterative testing
By breaking tasks into manageable steps, testing continuously, and iterating based on feedback, I successfully overcame these challenges, demonstrating persistence and focus as a solo, first-time hackathon participant.
