Inspiration:
I've been getting into exercise a little more, and I've been finding out its a lot easier to keep track of my mileage, or # of steps, than it is to keep track of upper/lower body workouts. The inspiration for this app came from the desire to want to track + analyze that progress more easily.
What it does:
-The user is interrupted every X minutes (the user defines the time interval) and prompted with an exercise. They complete the exercise and they input the number of reps they did. The system stores this information and uses it to determine the next exercise for the user to perform. In this way, a user can work out all of the muscle groups they're targeting throughout the course of a day (for example, they can work out all of their abdominals instead of just their obliques, or lower abdominals). -The system also has a scheduling tab- when you work out, you don't typically want to work out the same muscle group two days in a row. So this tab exists so that on days after users are training say, their upper body, that the next day, they're training their back. This prevents strain. -The software has a settings tab where they can toggle off all the exercises for a muscle group in the case of injury (perhaps the user twisted their ankle- they shouldn't be prompted with leg exercises; they should be able to continue using the app.)
How we built it:
-We're building it with React Native, caffeine and sweat
Challenges we ran into:
-The first few hours of our time together was spent messing around with an Android Studio build we ended up not using. We had all used Android Studio in the past, so we came in too overconfident. -There was some difficulty communicating ideas. -We are beginners using React Native! But we hope that by limiting the scope of the project, we will be able to finish the core of what we want in time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
We've come up with a solid idea we're planning to use in our personal lives. We figured out how to more effectively communicate ideas between each other.
What we learned:
To do more planning and preparation before the hackathon starts
What's next for Sculpted
- Social Networking and a streak system similar to Duolingo
