Inspiration
Our project draws inspiration from our deep concern for the environment, particularly the dire issue of plastic pollution in our oceans. Witnessing the suffering of innocent sea creatures like turtles and fish due to plastic waste deeply saddens us. Consequently, we are driven by a strong desire to showcase actionable steps we can take to make a positive difference.
What it does
Scuba Sweep aims to shed light on the pressing issue of ocean plastic pollution. Players immerse themselves in the role of a diver navigating through the ocean depths, tasked with collecting different types of plastic debris encountered along the way. Amidst this mission, they must also navigate past hazardous sea creatures, adding an element of challenge and urgency to the gameplay experience.
How we built it
The game is crafted using Flutter, with Flame serving as the game engine. Players have the freedom to select their own nickname to personalize their score tracking experience.
As the game begins, the diver component is introduced, automatically ascending and responsive to left or right movements via drag controls. Gradually, plastic and enemy components are introduced, each featuring distinct movements tailored to their creature type, heightening the challenge for players.
Additionally, divers can collect booster components like the shell pearl, providing a temporary shield, offering protection against enemy encounters. The game concludes when the player component collides with enemies, signaling the end of the gameplay session.
Challenges we ran into
Throughout development, we faced the task of dynamically adjusting the game's speed and backgrounds in response to user performance. Successfully implementing this feature demanded intricate logic to ensure seamless transitions between game levels, all while preserving smooth gameplay.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We take pride in crafting a game that seamlessly blends entertainment with environmental education. In the event of a player's defeat, our implementation of artificial intelligence generates personalized messages, offering valuable advice on how players can actively contribute to environmental conservation efforts.
What we learned
During the project, we acquired valuable insights and practical experience in mobile game development, with a special focus on utilizing the Flame game engine. Additionally, we refined our teamwork skills through collaborative efforts and mutual encouragement, leading to the achievement of our shared objectives.
In summary, our journey has provided us with a deeper appreciation of gaming's potential as a platform for raising awareness and fostering positive change in environmental conservation.
What's next for Scuba Sweep
Introducing even more educational features about environmental issues within the game, because learning should be enjoyable. Additionally, we're working on integrating Google Wallet for seamless ticket purchases to environmental conferences directly through the game interface.
