SCU Sound Perks

Inspiration

We wanted to a system to help users utilize their available rewards and benefits as well as increase financial literacy in the most convenient and least invasive way possible.

What it does

User receive texts detailing action items they can take to save or earn money and exactly how much money that action save/earn. The texts will be short and will contain exact instructions on how the user can take action, some actions will be able to be completed by a SCU employee. The texts are generated and sent fully automatically by an AI model that personalizes each user's action items based on data aggregated from all of the users' enrolled financial institutions. This includes spending on various credit/debit cards, savings accounts, 401k accounts, investment portfolios, and any other capital the user has. Based on the user's full financial picture the AI model generates and ranks action items the user can take and sends them out in the text. The second part of the system is a browser extension that alerts users at the checkout page of available benefits or rewards their financial institutions have before they make a purchase. For example if a user is about to book a hotel the extension will alert the user that by using their Citi Travel Card they can save 10% on this booking.

Challenges we ran into

Our primary challenge was managing scope during ideation. We navigated significant feature creep as we balanced ambition with feasibility, ultimately focusing on core functionalities that deliver maximum user value within the timeframe.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating functional Figma prototypes as well as the non-intrusive and highly accessible nature of our solution.

What we learned

Not everything can be perfect in the first stage, it's more important to get rough ideas jotted down early on before getting bogged down in specifics.

What's next for SCU Sound Perks

In our next steps we hope to make a rough working browser extension, demo the texting system, and layout the framework for the AI model.
