Inspiration

We once saw people with foot injuries on knee scooters at theme parks. In places like theme parks, a lot of walking is required and it is a real challenge for those with leg injuries. However, they do face problems like keeping the scooters for rides as the scooters are really big. In this section, we will go through how we were inspired by the knee scooters, what their pros and cons are, what benefits crutches have compared to scooters. Finally, we will show our idea development processes based on these contents.

What it does

The Scrutch can be competitive in that it can transform its form to one another. Then why is transformation availability so important? It is because of its greatly expanded spectrum of usages. In this section, we will validate how each status of the Scrutch can be operated in different environments.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

Needing to find calculations for each specific dimension in a compact design was very challenging due to the fact that safety and sustainability was also a challenge to attack. Also, coming up with a creative design was a big challenge was difficult

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Utilizing different tools such as coding with stiffness method to evaluate product sustainability, joint mechanisms, human factors and ergonomics all into one compact product was very memorable

What we learned

Learning brainstorm skills and problem approaching skills. Members had great opportunities to communicate and enhance their speech delivery skills, and teamwork was highly improved.

What's next for Scrutch

We are looking forward to more advanced studies on better dimensioning. This includes the final location of a handle (originated from the horse leg). Moreover, in the near future, we hope to involve AI-Oriented aspects into the next versions of the Scrutch. With the help of developing AI and IT technology, the later versions will provide an adaptable one-touch operating transition from scooter mode to crutch mode.
