Inspiration

Inspired by the creativity of old internet blogs. I've always been fasinated witth the look and feel of old blogs, specifically how they often times had an overarching theme that took over the styling and formatting. I figured what better way to bring my idea to life and put my skills to the test than amagic themed microblog website for magic themed hackathon!

What it does

Scrollr allows users to register their name into out incrypted grimoures, enter the portal to the coven, and cast spells into the ether to be shared with their fellow wizards.

How we built it

Using a combination of JavaScript, Node.js, and socket.io for real-time interactions, I crafted a user-friendly interface that brings the wizarding world to life.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges I experienced were attempting to scale down the project to a sizable MVP. I also challenged with learning new concepts like using jtw or socket, as well as old concepts like connecting databases to the backend to the frontend.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I was able to successfully implement a real-time updating feed onto a full-stack project. Not only that, but I was also able to mimic the layout and functionality of twitter.com, a well-known and popular microblogging site as well as implement ai into my project in a fun interactive way.

What we learned

I learned some ways to work better with old, already learned connections, like frontend and backend connection as well as new concepts like using jwt token.

What's next for Scroller

I hope to implement many more aspects to this project as it is, in my opinion, very bare boned! I would like to add profile mechanics like viewing profile info and profile-specific spells. I would also like to add more styling elements like unique cursors, background effects, maybe even toggling the use of music like in old blog pages.
