Inspiration
My friends quote movies non-stop to each other. I was always impressed with the obscure scenes they remembered. I starting looking up scripts and then texting them random lines from the Harry Potter franchise to see if they're get it.
Now it's a real game!
What it does
You're shown a mystery quote and have 5 attempts to guess the movie and character who said it.
- Guess right and you're rewarded with confetti and a collectible badge.
- Get one half right (e.g. correct movie, wrong character) and it locks in — now you only need to figure out the other half.
- Guess wrong and the game progressively reveals surrounding dialogue from the script as clues. Lines shimmer in one at a time — first the text, then the speaker — giving you more context with each attempt.
By your final attempt you'll have the original quote plus surrounding lines with full speaker info to help you out.
How we built it
It's all web. A lot of care went into the theming and the overall vibe. I especially like the randomly generated collectable badges - no two beetles, flowers, or stars are the same!
Challenges we ran into
Making everything fit without scroll overflow on mobile. Had to rethink the experience a few times to make it work but I'm proud of where it landed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I like how well it lends itself to reddit - this game only works for people who are really into the thing it is about. Where do you find those people.... reddit!
What's next for Scriptle
I'm going to continue iterating on it, it's gotten good reception from early posts and I want to ease pain points and make sure the first time experience is good
