Inspiration
Screenplay breakdown and production budgeting traditionally take line producers weeks of tedious manual labor. Script revisions force teams to recalculate costs, cross-reference department rates, and check for safety hazards manually. We built the Script-to-Budget Executive Assistant to automate this entire workflow using multi-agent AI systems, instant columnar analytical querying, and live dashboarding.
What it does
The application processes raw screenplay drafts in real time to generate interactive production budget analytics for film executives and line producers:
- Screenplay Parsing: Parses raw script text into structured scene metadata, locations, cast counts, and technical needs using Gemini tool calling.
- Line-Item Estimation: Automatically identifies expensive production assets (VFX, stunt teams, props, special logistics) and calculates estimated cost ranges.
- Analytical Persistence: Writes and queries structured line items to ClickHouse Cloud for sub-millisecond aggregations.
- Executive Dashboard: Renders real-time financial metrics, department breakdown bar charts, category donut charts, and editable line-item tables in Streamlit.
How we built it
- LLM Agent Pipeline: Powered by Google Gemini 2.5 Flash to perform structured schema extraction, risk assessment, and tool calling.
- Analytics Database: ClickHouse Cloud serves as the columnar OLAP store for sub-millisecond aggregation queries across department costs and scene metrics.
- Hosting & Dashboard: Built with Streamlit, Plotly Express, and hosted entirely on Replit.
Challenges we overcame
- Structured Tool Calling: Ensuring the Gemini agent consistently output formatted JSON arrays across edge-case scene descriptions with heavy VFX or stunt elements.
- Database Resilience: Setting up smooth database connection pooling and automatic schema initialization with ClickHouse Cloud to prevent query delays during live user interactions.
What's next for Script-to-Budget Executive Assistant
- Adding automated script revision diffing to compare budget changes across script draft v1 and v2.
- Integrating multi-currency conversion for international multi-location film shoots.
