Inspiration
So me and Mo have very frequent meetings, be it student meetings or business meetings, but one thing we always notice is that people either completely forget about meeting minutes or they only just remember about it right before the meeting starts.
What happens then is that the guy responsible for the meeting either tries to fill the meeting minutes even though it does not encapsulate everything that's been discussed in the meeting or he rushes to get a minute taker for the meeting which delays the meeting by 5-10 minutes.
What we built
So we made a solution, that is, an intelligent AI-powered chrome extension that listens to your the audio tab of your choosing and in one click of a button, it takes down precise meeting minutes for you.
Using the reliable Google Vertex AI, the application answers specific questions in order to craft a meeting minute document that is as precise as possible.
So what? Meeting minutes is a small deal anyways bro
Yes, many people may think that taking down meeting minutes is a small issue. That is, until you run into the same problem we described.
Tell me, what are you going to do when one of your team members cannot make it for a meeting? Record a video? Taking a recording of the meeting isn't efficient, you're wasting their time by asking them to watch through a possibly 2 hour long video. Meeting minutes however, solves this problem by basically creating a tldr (too long didn't read) version of the meeting so that they do not have to waste their time
What if you have a designated minute taker for every meeting? Well, let me ask you, why go through the trouble of designating a human minute taker for every meeting? Humans make errors all the time, this is called human error, what if your minute taker doesn't catch some stuff? Why run the risk when you can just use an equally, if not more reliable AI minute taker?
The journey of building it
So obviously we had to learn some things like how to create a chrome extension since it was our first time, and also how to use the word document and notion api and no surprise, we ran into some challenges. We had some bugs here and there but by repeatedly testing our application and debugging, we managed to get the thing working.
What's next for Scriber
We intend to integrate it into software such as Zoom, Discord, etc instead of having it just web based since we believe it can really help people increase the efficiency of their everyday meetings.
We believe Scriber will be super helpful for people who have frequent meetings since it removes the hassle of meeting minutes.
