Inspiration

Film production has a simple but expensive problem: a screenplay can change in seconds, but understanding what that change breaks across the rest of production can take hours.

A changed line might affect a prop, location, storyboard frame, camera setup, actor brief, continuity decision, or production research. Most filmmaking tools treat these as separate documents.

We built Scribe Studio around a different idea:

Change the script. Know the production consequences before the set pays for them.

Scribe Studio is an agentic filmmaking workspace that connects screenplay writing, production reasoning, grounded research, 3D previsualization, performance preparation, and production export into one workflow.

What it does

Scribe Studio starts with the screenplay.

When a meaningful screenplay change occurs, Change Intelligence analyzes its downstream impact instead of blindly regenerating the entire production.

A Production Change Passport shows:

  • what changed
  • which production artifacts are affected
  • which artifacts remain protected
  • the dependency and blast radius of the change
  • the reasoning and provenance behind the decision

For uncertain real-world claims, Reality Gate can invoke live external research rather than allowing the system to confidently invent an answer.

We use Google ADK to orchestrate the agentic decision workflow and Parallel Search to retrieve grounded external evidence and citations.

The user can then reject the proposed change with zero production mutation or approve it and selectively invalidate only the artifacts that actually need to change.

That approved production state continues into the visual workflow.

Visualize

Scribe Studio includes an interactive 3D previsualization environment where filmmakers can:

  • automatically block a scene from screenplay context
  • add characters, props, furniture, environments, cameras, and lights
  • translate, rotate, and scale objects
  • adjust camera lens and field of view
  • enable composition guides such as Rule of Thirds
  • save camera shots
  • capture frames directly into the storyboard

Perform

The Perform workspace carries scene and character intent forward into performance preparation instead of forcing actors and filmmakers to reconstruct context from separate documents.

Produce

The Produce workflow converts the approved production state into deliverables and can export the complete production package as a ZIP.

The goal is not to replace filmmakers.

The goal is to give every screenplay change a traceable path from idea → evidence → decision → visualization → production.

How we built it

The frontend is built with React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Three.js, React Three Fiber, Drei, Zustand, and IndexedDB.

The intelligent workflow combines:

  • Google ADK for agent orchestration
  • Gemini 2.5 Flash through the Google Gen AI SDK
  • Parallel Search for live grounded web evidence
  • a screenplay dependency and change-intelligence layer
  • an interactive Three.js production stage
  • persistent production state across writing, visualization, performance, and production workflows

The application is tested with Vitest and Playwright.

Our final validation includes 82/82 unit and integration tests and 52/52 evaluation scenarios passing.

Challenges we faced

The hardest problem was not generating text. It was deciding what should change and, equally importantly, what should not change.

A naive AI workflow tends to regenerate everything after an edit. That is dangerous in production because already-approved work can disappear or silently drift.

We therefore built dependency-aware selective invalidation. Scribe Studio computes the production blast radius of a screenplay change and protects unrelated artifacts.

Another challenge was grounding agent decisions. When a production decision depends on external reality, the system should not manufacture evidence. Reality Gate therefore uses the live Parallel integration and exposes evidence and citations before the change is accepted.

The 3D environment introduced another class of problems: maintaining predictable transform controls, camera movement, procedural assets, scene state, and storyboard capture while keeping everything synchronized with screenplay context.

What we learned

We learned that useful creative agents need more than generation.

They need:

state, provenance, evidence, dependencies, reversible decisions, and clear boundaries around what they are allowed to mutate.

Google ADK gave us an orchestration layer for that reasoning process, while Parallel gave the system a way to leave its internal context and verify claims against live external evidence.

Combining those capabilities with an actual production interface made the agentic behavior visible and actionable instead of hiding it inside a chatbot.

What's next

We want Scribe Studio to grow from screenplay-to-previs into a complete collaborative production operating system.

Future directions include deeper production scheduling, richer character and actor workflows, advanced 3D assets, collaborative production graphs, continuity intelligence, and more granular agent permissions.

The long-term vision is simple:

A filmmaker should be able to change one sentence and immediately understand what that decision means for the entire production.
