Screen3 is an all-in-one app for recording, organizing knowledge, and sharing video updates and meetings. We are thrilled to announce the development of this powerful tool that will revolutionize how you share your ideas with the world.
Screen recording + Web3 = Screen3
Inspiration
We created Screen3 because we occasionally wanted to record content for LinkedIn, Presentation, and Twitter using Loom. However, we found Loom to be quite pricey for our needs. Their pricing model charges $8 per user per month, which he felt was too much because we believe you should only pay for what you use. As we built Screen3, we realized it could also be a valuable product for small businesses.
We researched the best ways to deliver the same experience as Loom while saving costs for users. We discovered Theta's fully decentralized encoding, storage, and peer-to-peer delivery network, which is affordable compared to centralized cloud storage. We believe small businesses could benefit significantly from the low cost achievable by passing down storage savings cost, which is possible by using Theta Edge Network.
What it does
With Screen3, you can easily share your ideas by recording yourself or your screen. The free tier allows you to save a limited number of videos on the Theta Edge Network storage that does not exceed 1GB and share them as you, please.
The premium version allows you to increase your storage space between 10GB and above to save your videos on the Thetha blockchain storage, add a description, transcribe the video, and also share your video with everyone.
But that's not all! Screen3 comes packed with features that make it stand out from other screen recording apps:
- Fully searchable AI-generated video summaries and transcripts
- Jump to the timestamp of video playback from searched phrases
- Video analytics on traffic and hot spots
- Private video using Theta NFT DRM or make them public.
- Subscription Payment using TFUEL
- Comment and collaborate on videos
How we built it
We built Screen3 using the following technologies;
- Theta Edge Network: For storage and content delivery, NFT DRM
- Electron JS: Used to ship the client as a desktop app for Mac, Windows, and Linux. to access system hardware like Camera, Filesystem, e.t.c
- React / NextJS: Built the desktop and web app user interface with react
- NodeJS: The backend server was built with NodeJS. It also interacts with FFMPEG on the desktop client
- FFMPEG: Used to transcode the recorded videos and generate thumbnails
- WebRTC: To capture user audio, camera, and screen
Architecture

Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of what we have accomplished - our desktop app is currently in development and on track to be delivered in early May 2023.
What we learned
We learned quite a few things while building Screen3, which includes but is not limited to the following:
- The right sweet spot to set our price for premium users. Which in our case is 500 TFuel ~ $20.
- Advance usage of FFmpeg and FProbe.
- Building web app using Electron.
- User research on what's most important to our audience. In our case, is; Transcription, Summarizer, and Video Searching.
What's next for Screen3
First, we plan to partner with Devpost.com and Dorahacks.io and offer every hacker one month free for recording their Demo videos during hackathons. This will get us traffic for early adopters who are very tech savvy and early feedback to iterate the product.
But we're not stopping there! We plan to add more features like video editing tools, customizable branding options, and integrations with other productivity tools.
We are passionate about helping individuals and small businesses succeed by providing a powerful, affordable, easy-to-use tool. We believe that everyone has something valuable to share, and we want to make it as easy as possible for them to do so.
Conclusion
So if you're looking for a way to record, organize, and share your video content, look no further than Screen3. Join us on this journey of sharing knowledge and ideas through video.
