Inspiration

I wanted to recreate the simple, nostalgic games from my childhood. This game is a little reflection of all those memories we share from growing up.

What it does

In this game, you play as the cat trying to avoid getting hit by the griffin. If the griffin hits the cat three times, it’s game over. It’s simple but surprisingly engaging.

How we built it

I built it using core coding concepts like loops, conditional statements, and variables. I also added music and voices to make the experience more fun. It features a simple background and uses two sprites: a cat and a griffin.

Challenges we ran into

Moving the griffin the way I wanted using loops and conditions was tricky. It took several tries, but I finally figured it out. Being my first Scratch project, I was a bit unfamiliar with all the possibilities, so it took some practice to get the hang of it. Honestly, writing code in C sometimes feels easier than this!

Accomplishments we’re proud of

I’m proud I completed it! Even if it’s a bit rough around the edges, I really enjoyed making it, and I hope players have fun playing it too.

What we learned

I discovered how many different projects you can create on Scratch. It’s an amazing platform for beginners, with its sprites, backgrounds, and code blocks. I also got to appreciate how powerful loops are—and how challenging it can be to build a well-functioning game.

What’s next for ScratchThatCat

I’m planning to refine it further and maybe share it online to get reviews and feedback. It might never be a full-fledged game, but I hope it brings fun to me and a few others who play it.
