Inspiration
Scratch from Scratch was inspired by the traditional flash games played in my childhood.
What it does
It's a game! Roughly in the vein of Getting Over It or Epic Battle Fantasy 5, an abstract narrative involving a duck attempting to cross a road.
How I built it
It was built entirely in Scratch, to test if I could.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest problem was making the road line up continuously, it procedurally generates infinitely with resources to gather and enemies to avoid - which either increase your score or end the game.
There are also no objects or called methods in scratch, so workarounds were needed such as colour detection and following other sprites by their pixel count.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I haven't touched scratch since age 12, so I'm proud to say I've accomplished what I have - almost from scratch!
What we learned
I learned how to use a programming language in only a day.
What's next for Scratch from Scratch
“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” ― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
As for what's next - I would focus on polishing the features I have instead of adding more. Which means: more enemies, improving the road, adding stages, comparing scores, the possibilities are truly unending.
