Inspiration

Our family loves crafting, and whilst we try to use what we have at home to make our crafts, often projects require extra trips to the store to get necessary materials. We wanted to make a solution to that--by making an app that recommends projects that only use the materials you have at home.

What it does

Scraps to Crafts recommends you projects based on the inputted materials that you have laying around.

How we built it

Scraps to Crafts is a desktop application using Java Swing. Our program works with a CSV file database with projects and their materials.

Challenges we ran into

We had difficulties with the different Swing layouts, and overall flow of our app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Overall we ended up really liking the end product and overall design of our app.

What we learned

We learned the basics of using databases for information, alongside the difficulties in polishing data inputs.

What's next for Scraps to Crafts

We'd love to add several functionalities, including:

• A larger database of crafts projects
• Object recognition, so that the user can take an image of the supplies they have at home, and our app generates projects based on those items recognized.
