Defining our Problem Space
Keeping in mind this pertinent theme of digitizing tangible experiences, we knew we wanted to make something that spoke to the soul.
In today’s fast-paced society that prioritizes productivity and efficiency above all, we often neglect retaining the smaller joys and experiences that ground us — that humanize us.
With our project, we aim to view digitization through a new lens by leveraging it to slow us down and let us connect with ourselves, instead of speeding up an already hastened life.
Design Development and Ideation
Our biggest insight was that memory is emotional, not informational, and we wanted to let users build their own story.
Here’s what we kept in mind:
- Other digital tools have convenience but not connection
- Memories are sensory — smells, sounds, scraps
- Memory-keeping is about surprise and slowness
- We want to foster revisitation, not just storage
Translating Insights into Features:
We also translated the collected pain points into actionable features we would aim to include:
- Digital gestures (peeling, brushing, dragging) to mimic physical interaction
- Natural navigation
- Gradual memory “uncovering”
- Audio-visual ambiance to evoke emotion and immersion
