Inspiration - What inspired us to use a widget in the corner of our app was the original chatbot widget, Clippy. We bought him back through Scrappy to serve as a cybersecurity tool.
What it does - Scrappy allows you to input any url and it will determine how malicious the website is for the user through API key connected to online database. Scrappy will then display its findings.
How we built it - Recardo built the images and GIF's to use as Scrapy. Adam built the animations and loading the widget on to the screen using Tkinter. I built the question logic and the skeleton. Mark built the API key code so that Scrappy could pull data from a database online for the security of the URL entered.
Challenges we ran into - The biggest challenge we ran into was seamlessly connecting the different scripts we wrote so it executed smoothly. The second biggest challenge was building the animations logic so that Scrappy could walk around the screen.
Accomplishments that we're proud of - We are so proud that we were able to build a fully functional version of Scrappy with all its key features. Im proud that we were able to use Tkinter module to our best, despite not being the biggest experts in Tkinter.
What we learned - We learned how to use Tkinter to build interactive programs. We learned that to seamlessly integrate different programs together you have to be as effecient in the way you use functions and be organized with lots of comments so that you can navigate the different files. Its very important to integrate different aspects of two different programs slowly rather than fully loading everything into one without any testing.
What's next for Scrappy - We want to expand into finding email phishing, where we will scan emails and determine if they are phishing attempts. We also want to expand into looking for AI plagirism by using the same strategy we did with website URL's and looking for speicific language. We may also expand the character for Scrappy beyond the cat to other animals or even characters.
