Inspiration
We live in today's world where we are facing environmental issues caused by man kinds act. One such issue is waste generation which is affecting planet Earth & human health equally. As society has become more aware of the impact of waste on the planet, the need to properly manage and dispose of garbage🗑️ has become increasingly important, especially in developing countries which lack the action. To prevent pollution & protect natural resources we need to include reducing, recycling, and properly disposing of waste to address the problem of overflowing landfills. Scrap IT UP! tries to address this by educating people through a simple lens game. This is can be used by anyone but it's the best way to teach children at a young age to make habit of it.
What it does
Simple game to educate one with proper waste separation process by identifying the correct garbage bin to dispose for recycling & trashing garbage. Once player starts the game, items will be displayed on the screen user has to select Trash It or Recycle Me waste bin/container. If you choose correct bin, you get points on score board to beat your personal highest but if you failed to identify error sound helps to understand that your choice was incorrect.
How we built it
Used basic tooling of Lens studio to show different disposable items in view that user sees. Added sound effect & bit of animation to make it feel like game environment. Currently very few garbage items added for demo purpose, this can be scaled.
Challenges we ran into
Challenging as completely new to Lens Studio. I wanted to add all as 3D objects & have drag and drop effect but with less time & knowledge it was tough. Lens studio is good IDE when it comes to RAM utilization of laptop but it uses graphic card heavily that turn consumes battery like anything. It will certainly something team can look into, I mentioned this as I faced this issue in-spite of on good laptop configuration so developers using on lower configuration its might be too tough :(.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I thought I would not be able to complete the basic version & put-up this in short-span of time to learn both javascript & lens studio, develop & test.
What we learned
How to use lens studio? Basics of scripting as newbie in JS also. How to align objects :P Still 3D objects & some positioning things needs to learn to improve this further.
What's next for Scrap It Up!
- Its purpose is to educate people by playing game. This can be scaled to have multiplayer game.
- Different levels to complete to advance & making game tough to play as levels increase.
- Integrate with SnapMap & have location flavor to different levels of game.
- More interactive - Add gesture based garbage bin selection like A] blink left eye/ raise left eye brow to select left garbage bin for item disposable. B] similarly Hand gesture C] similarly Voice recognition UI
