Scout
🚀 Inspiration
Today's AI assistants are great at completing individual tasks, but real work is rarely completed by a single specialist. Teams collaborate, delegate work, review outputs, and hand tasks off between experts.
We asked ourselves:
What if AI agents could collaborate the same way human teams do—without leaving Slack?
Since Slack is already the operating system for modern teams, we wanted to transform it from a communication platform into an execution platform where multiple AI agents can work together autonomously.
That idea became Scout.
đź’ˇ What it does
Scout is a multi-agent AI workspace built inside Slack.
Instead of assigning work to a single AI assistant, Scout intelligently orchestrates multiple specialized AI agents that collaborate on complex tasks. Each agent owns a specific responsibility, shares context with the rest of the team, and seamlessly hands work off to the next agent until the task is complete.
Users simply describe what they need in Slack, and Scout coordinates the entire workflow—from planning and execution to review and delivery.
With Scout, Slack conversations become autonomous, collaborative workflows.
🛠️ How we built it
Scout combines Slack's conversational experience with an orchestration layer for AI agents.
Our system includes:
- Native Slack integration for creating and managing tasks
- Multi-agent orchestration engine
- Intelligent agent-to-agent handoffs
- Shared memory and context between agents
- Real-time task updates and execution tracking
- Modular architecture that allows specialized agents to collaborate on a single workflow
Rather than treating every request as a single prompt, Scout decomposes work into coordinated execution across multiple agents.
⚡ Challenges
The biggest challenge wasn't building an AI agent—it was building AI collaboration.
We had to solve problems around:
- Maintaining shared context between multiple agents
- Designing reliable agent handoff mechanisms
- Preventing duplicate or conflicting work
- Keeping users informed without overwhelming Slack conversations
- Creating a workflow that feels natural inside Slack
Balancing autonomy with transparency was one of the hardest parts of the project.
🎯 What we learned
Building Scout taught us that the future of AI at work isn't a better chatbot—it's teams of AI agents that collaborate like humans do.
We also learned that user experience is just as important as orchestration. Powerful multi-agent systems only become useful when they're easy to interact with, transparent, and fit naturally into existing workflows.
đź”® What's next
We're continuing to expand Scout with richer agent ecosystems, deeper integrations with workplace tools, smarter planning capabilities, and more autonomous workflows.
Our vision is simple:
Turn Slack into a workspace where teams collaborate with AI teams—not just AI assistants.
