Inspiration
Every day, thousands of Reddit posts compete for attention, but only a handful unexpectedly explode. We wanted to turn that phenomenon into a daily prediction game where players compete by spotting tomorrow's biggest winner before everyone else.
What it does
Scout presents five carefully selected Reddit posts each day. Players get one chance to predict which post will rank highest the next day. They return for an animated results reveal, earn Scout Rating, build streaks, unlock achievement flairs, track their history, and compete on a live community leaderboard.
How we built it
Scout is built with Devvit, React, TypeScript and Phaser. Daily candidate posts are automatically selected, frozen using snapshots for fair judging, resolved through scheduled jobs, and persisted with Devvit Redis. The experience includes a dedicated daily challenge, cinematic results reveal, persistent leaderboard, player history, streak system and achievement flairs.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was designing a fair daily competition. Players joining late should never gain an advantage, so we snapshot post metrics before voting begins. We also spent significant effort polishing the onboarding, reveal flow and navigation to make the game intuitive while encouraging daily returns.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a game that feels native to Reddit rather than simply running on Reddit. Every challenge is powered by real Reddit content, every result reflects real community engagement, and the entire experience encourages players to return every day.
What we learned
Building Scout taught us how to design around Devvit's strengths, create long-term engagement loops, and balance fairness with excitement. We also learned the value of continuous UI polish—small improvements to onboarding, navigation and feedback dramatically improved the overall experience.
What's next for Scout - Daily Prediction Challenge
We plan to introduce multiple game modes, seasonal tournaments, subreddit-specific challenges, richer player profiles, social sharing, deeper statistics, and friend/community competitions while keeping the core "one prediction per day" experience simple and accessible.
