Scope

Inspiration

Our inspiration was our high school experiences as a freshman. Early on, it was very hard to find extracurriculars and distinguish the high-value to low-value opportunities. We had to scrounge for ideas and get connections to find chances to prove ourselves. This hardship gave us a good starting point to set us up to construct Scope.

What it does

Scope is a website which helps young and old students find new opportunities to strengthen their experience and get them ready for the real world. Scope gives the user the ability to search for opportunities ranging from service learning to math tutor openings. Once you find an opportunity, sign up, chat with the organizers, and get updated on requirements. It even allows you to link accounts with educational platforms to increase the "scope" or radar to find more opportunities.

How we built it

We used Whimsical to construct the mock-up / design / layout of Scope. We used designs of multiple platforms to incorporate it into Scope. For example, the organizer chat was streamlined with Discord and Google Chat. We then used OBS Studio to record our audio and guide the viewer to how our product functions. We also used Render forest to create smooth transition animations as well as a logo animation.

Challenges we ran into

Teammates were a bit out of pocket at first, but then we entered the flow state and began working efficiently. Another problem we had was finding layout designs for the product, but the finished product looks unique to itself. We also ran into some challenging time problems. Most of us were at a busy schedule and we are a different time zone from Vivid Hacks themselves, which presented itself as a problem. During the hackathon, we also indirectly saved a neighbor's house from completely burning down. This hackathon was wild.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of the finished product, design, color scheme. We are also proud of our video and the work we put in to create such an amazing product.

What we learned

When you work alone, you can work at your own pace in comfort, but with teamwork, you can produce amazing ideas at an extremely faster rate (perfect for a hackathon) and enjoy working as well.
