Inspiration
The inspiration for building this app is the PartyRock Generative AI Hackathon by AWS. Since I am not a coder by profession, this looks like an exciting opportunity to showcase my AI and programming skills.
What it does
This AI app assists students and even teachers in learning science subjects. Based on the response from Claude, the app assistant named "science teacher " will answer any questions students have in subjects like physics, chemistry, and maths. This app also provides links to academic resources related to topics they are discussing in the app in real-time.
For teachers and AI developers, there is a separate section for live monitoring the response of "science teacher" based on basic academic answering parameters such as accuracy, relevancy, conceptual clarity, tone, etc... Also, the model in this part suggests better teaching methods to discuss the topics of discussion in a real classroom. It also suggests real or virtual demonstrations and experiments related to the science subjects the student is discussing with the AI assistant.
Whether you are a student or teacher, this is a unique tool developed to assist you in learning and teaching.
How we built it
I have used partyrock.aws to create the app and edit the app.
Challenges we ran into
The Claude model's limitations in numerical calculations and stability diffusion's limited image generation capability were a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that I have participated in a hackathon by building an AI app that was even not thinkable some years before.
What we learned
I learned that the gap between programming and coding is becoming narrow. One day, we can build and deploy full-fledged complex apps just using natural language.
What's next for Science Learning Companion
I plan to add more complex features to Science Learning Companion which makes it user-friendly and more tailored to the user. If possible, I like to add authorization and authentication for students which can make learning more student-specific.
