Project Story: Laying the Foundation for a Leading European Cloud Platform
The Inspiration The global tech landscape is currently dominated by a handful of U.S. companies that have built impressive infrastructures. As a young developer, I have studied these models closely—from their scalability to the seamless integration of their services. Yet, while analyzing these ecosystems, it became clear to me that Europe has the potential to play an equally significant, if not superior, role. The inspiration behind Schwarzpalatech is my desire to create an equally capable ecosystem, headquartered in Europe. I want to prove that you don't need a multi-billion dollar company to set a new standard through excellent technology that enriches the European market.
How I Built It: Vertical Integration for Maximum Performance Schwarzpalatech is a solo project that I am developing with the support of AI. Building a platform that competes on par with industry leaders requires a deep understanding of the entire stack. That is why I have committed to consistent vertical integration:
- Infrastructure (NexusCloud): The core is a custom-built cloud platform that manages workloads efficiently. By implementing gRPC and mTLS myself, I achieve performance levels crucial for scalability: Platform Efficiency = (Scaling Speed)/(Operating Costs)
- Identity (MyAccount): A centralized identity management system that ensures seamless user experiences across all my projects.
- Products (LÆCL, PalaMail, etc.): My products serve as proof that the platform is already capable of efficiently hosting complex applications.
Using Bazel as a build system within a monorepo, I ensure that my development process operates at a technological level usually reserved for large software corporations.
(Note: Other projects initiated by me, such as the operating system "Xernel," are technologically independent endeavors and are not part of this specific submission.)
Challenges: Strategic Technological Development Laying the foundation for a new cloud infrastructure as a solo developer involves complex tasks:
- Technological Complexity: Building an infrastructure that excels in reliability and speed requires deep-dive solutions in areas that are typically proprietary.
- Network Architecture: Developing a high-performance network layer for the cloud platform is a key step in gaining full control over workload I/O behavior.
- Monorepo Discipline: Through consistent architectural mandates like the "One Version Rule" and automated build processes, I create the foundation for fast, scalable growth, even without a large team.
What I Learned: Technological Excellence as a Competitive Advantage Building Schwarzpalatech has shown me that software infrastructure is the foundation for economic success. I have learned that technological sovereignty is not achieved by avoiding global standards, but by developing better, integrated solutions that hold their own in a competitive market.
We are not here to question the legitimacy of others, but to establish a first-class offering "made in Europe." Schwarzpalatech is my contribution to closing the gap in the European tech landscape. My goal is to solidify this platform in Europe first and, from here, demonstrate what technological ambition and excellence can achieve.
