Inspiration
I was inspired to create this app because many organizers tend to overengineer what is meant to be simple, an organizer, with many features that most people do not use.
What it does
This is a simple app that, after signing in with google, allows you to store your homework data and keep track of your assignments. It also comes with a pomodoro timer, which is a productive studying technique, to keep you on your studies.
How we built it
It was built using React.js with create-react-app and with popular frameworks and libraries Material-UI and React-router. As well I used React-countdown which made it easier to work on the timer page and cut down on coding time.
Challenges we ran into
Initially I had problems troubleshooting the react-countdown component because it would not refresh the components once the countdown had finished. However, after a while I was finally able to figure out the problem and had fixed it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am pretty happy that I was able to identify and fix bugs as they came about in development. Although some of the bugs were hard it was always a satisfying feeling when you finally fix the problem.
What we learned
One useful thing I learned from this hackathon is to better read documentation. When I was fixing some of the components I found it much more beneficial to read the documentation because they provide examples for how components are supposed to look like which makes it easier for me to identify what is wrong.
What's next for SchoolPrioritizer
To continue to build out the site to provide essential and useful tools to students to boost their productivity.
