Inspiration

SchoolPool was inspired by my personal conflicts. Earlier this year, my school district cut me off of transportation as apparently I lived nearby the school and they're just spending money for no reason. Now even though I live near my school, I am no where near walkable distance (3-4 miles away). This lead to my parents having to change their daily work schedules just to give me and my brother a ride. We even arranged car pools sometimes but it was always a last minute thing and made things complicated. This is where the idea of SchoolPool was originated.

What it does

SchoolPool is an online application which allows parents to find nearby neighbors who have students that go to the same school as their own who are willing to help give rides to the students whose guardians cant. Parents who have the ability can also sign themselves up to help the other students. SchoolPool has a great search filter which allows parents to easily search for parent drivers based on neighborhood or school.

How we built it

SchoolPool was built on the Flask framework alongside a SQL database & HTML/CSS.

What we learned

Throughout the entire process of building the application with community support, I've learned that this issue is prevalent throughout the entire country as districts are starting to cut costs. Many of these students throughout the country are also struggling to get to school because of this. This not only validates the idea but also ensure that it would be useful to many.

What's next for SchoolPool

In the future, once further validation is completed, there will be security and account systems to make sure that all students and arrangements are safe and seamless.
