Inspiration

Bullying and harassment is an incredibly large problem all over. In schools and outside. It's impossible to not hear of these cases. I was inspired to create SchoolGuard because everyone has been effected by this at one point or another. In order to stop harassment across the globe once and for all a movement must be done at a young age.

What it does

There are three parts to SchoolGuard, the web interface, mobile application, and desktop application. On the website schools can register for free and gain a unique "School Code". With this school code students can anonymously submit a "incident" to the administration which gives a location and details of the information. This is sent to the desktop program the administrators have.

How I built it

Lot's of tears, I've learned the most ever at this hackathon. After my team left me I was already so invested in this I trudged on! I'm an Android developer and I've dabbled in JavaFX to create GUI programs in Java. So I ended up making the app, admin program, and website.

Challenges I ran into

I had a lot of issues with backend, I ended up using PHP and a MySQL database. I also ran into the obvious problem of doing this myself.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of this entire project. I'm proud that this will be able to help schools and students all over. I know that I learned so much about PHP and MySQL.

What I learned

I learned how to create Java desktop apps, use databases, and PHP.

What's next for SchoolGuard

I'm hoping to release SchoolGuard to the public for schools and students to use. It's not only for high schoolers, but also for college students too.
