Inspiration
We were inspired by the power of social interactions. We want to capture the wealth of knowledge that exists among student bodies across Canadian universities. We want to empower prospective students and help them make an informed decision when it comes to selecting a post-secondary education.
What it does
StudyBuddy is an open forum for prospective high-school students, as well as university students to give candid feedback for any concerns about school life, academics, and housing among major Canadian universities. Additionally, can help raise issues in these areas without fear of censorship.
How we built it
We used React for the front-end. We incorporated the open twitter API. For UI, the ant design component library was used. We challenged ourselves to use Git.
Challenges we ran into
Finding inspiration for this project. We struggled to keep ourselves fed because there was no free food. Kevin struggled in his League game while we worked on this project, which was tremendously sad.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we have tried out new technologies and that within the short time frame, created a minimal viable product for submission.
What we learned
React is a powerful tool for front end development. Additionally, we were able to learn how to use Git in a professional development setting.
What's next for SchoolBuddy
We will leverage MongoDB to create a fast and performant backend. We will start developing a machine learning model using Pytorch to help answer questions that people have never even thought of. In addition, we will start investing in self-autonomous vehicles.
