Inspiration

Our own experiences with three semesters online.

What it does

Allows the user to easily consolidate all their online class info (zoom links and lectures, assignments, class schedules etc...).

How we built it

We used Django, HTML, CSS and Bootstrap web stacks to make the website from scratch.

Challenges we ran into

Most of us hadn't used Django prior to the start of the Hackathon and so learning the framework and implementing complex code in a short period of time was challenging for us... We learned quickly though!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a text parser and data scraper that accesses AskBanner information and automates the user scheduler. None of us are very design-inclined and so we are also extremely proud of our color scheme and our ability to center (more or less) elements.

What we learned

We had a great experience learning Django and more complex aspects of web development. It was an interesting, challenging and informative experience coming up with an idea and taking concrete, actionable steps in a limited amount of time in order to see that idea come to fruition. We also learned that when you stay up for twenty-four hours, you need four meals instead of three.

What's next for SchoolBell

We would love the chance to implement more of the functions that we had originally intended the website to offer. At the top of that list is the planner page in which zoom classes are included with links integrated with the display. Additionally, we would like to create a parser that inputs a class syllabus and reads assignment information (homework, essays, tests etc...) then automatically adds it to the student's planner.
