Inspiration

Providing schools with a convenient way of storing and accessing student data and providing a way of processing student report cards automatically.The problems schools in mathare face are: .i. Student records are not stored in a single place and are scattered ii. Accessing and retrieval of student records take long time iii. It is difficult for schools to keep accurate student health information iv. Parents cant get real time student information updates such as attendance v. Teachers have to fill students report cards manually which is time consuming vi. Some parents get lost and cant find their way to schools during parent visits vii. Parents cant immediately know when their children have dodged school viii. Many schools cant produce correct timetables and teachers miss lessons sometime ix. Admission to institutions requires one to present huge forms which take long to verify x. Institutions communicate to parents via letters which take long time to be delivered xi. Parents pay fees in cash which is not safe xii. Many schools cant track their former students and engage them in any event they plan.

What it does

The application shall have a large database to store a large volume of information about schools and students.The buttons in the app will be :

Student information 1.Display student attendance records,exam grades,achievements, medical history,account balance 2.Display a view of the past and current course 3.Keep and monitor student health including medication and health alerts Parent access 1.Parents can log in and view notifications from school,student attendance,student performance Teachers access 1.Teachers can keep records of student progress here 2.Teachers can fill in and student reports are automatically produced and sent to the parent immediately School location 1.The application shall provide GPS location of the school so people can locate the school reach Attendance manager 1.This feature can notify a parent immediately when a student is marked absent 2.Patterns in attendance can be analysed and the student involved advised accordingly 3.The application shall be fed with the list of all the students per class and the class teacher marks the registers through the application. Lesson tracker 1.Teachers upload all the sub topics and topics taught in a a day so students can access
and see the lessons they missed while they were absent. 2.The system shall produce timetables automatically once fed with the relevant
information needed to come up with the timetable. 3.The application shall notify teachers of upcoming lessons and design duty rosters for the teachers. 4.This feature also allows school management to track teacher class attendance. Admission manager 1.Automates enquiries,enrolment and admission process 2.Eliminates need for bundles of files by introducing a search option that makes data accessible in a short time Notification 1.Institutions can send important notices and announcements to students,teachers, staff and parents via this feature.

Fee manager 1.Parents and students can pay fees from any device of their choice 2.Instant notification alerts are sent to the parties involved making the transaction transparent and secure. Alumni and fundraising 1.Build alumni connections to trigger alumni interaction to get ideas for betterment of institution 2.Track the influential alumni network and donors for fundraising ,career advancement and business exchange 3.After graduation,institutions can keep track of their students their career and involve them in future curricular aspects.

How we built it

The app is not yet built but we have presented ideas on how we want the app to appear upon creation.

Challenges we ran into

Some schools refused to disclose information just to avoid opening up their weaknesses and protect their image,this hindered our data collection and we could not find all the problems the schools face.

Making the first step to improving education standards in the slums,we believe that education will give the people in the slums the power they need to rise from their misery.
