Inspiration

-*Our inspiration for this project was relating to being college students ourselves. We can all relate on how we have to search on multiple different website to find a certain deadline or information of a scholarship. We wanted to make a generalize website with all scholarship where you can get certain scholarship that match with you based on information about yourself. *

What it does

-The website is suppose to find a way in which college students can find the most sufficient way to find scholarships. The goal is to make it easier for different ages to find specific, any and all scholarships on this one website without having to search through 20+ website. The website will ask about your age, gender, major, and state. And based on the inputs, then there will be scholarships matching the information with the link to the scholarships, deadline, requirements, and the description.

How we built it

-We used html to build the site in which college students can use to find scholarships that are specific to them and their major, interests, age, or location. A lot of our code is Front-end so having a site that the user could interact with was very important. We coded in notepad and had the site display in Explorer as the code was updated so we could see what changes were made in real time. We also created the database by creating mock-up scholarship options and having them represent a certain set of characteristics a person might choose. Our database would have been coded into the HTML with Python however and making that connection I feel was our biggest issue.

Challenges we ran into

-One line of code that was difficult for us was getting our database of scholarships to be matched to user input. It was so challenging that we weren’t able to create a solid line of code to accomplish that goal in our time frame. We did however, build the database and understand the concept of pulling from it and so we plan to further this project for the later submission. Also, finding a way to link each scholarship to certain characteristics of the inputs in the dropdown bars.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-We proud of the teamwork and driven mentality that we had for the project. Since this was our first time, we were able to use the skill and background knowledge on different languages to build this excellent project.

What we learned

-Our code can always be improved but being efficient with the time you have is key. We learned that time management and communications is important to make good project. We learn how we can continue to improve our project to make it as efficient as possible.

What's next for Scholarships Near Me

-To try to upgrade the software to provide an accurate intake that will produce the most specific scholarship to the information provided. The goal is to have the user's input that actual age, race, gender, and location to better find accurate scholarships. Also, we would like scholarships to appear with full descriptions and specifications for the users benefit. A skill that would be great to learn as we further our project is linking a database to front-end code and being able to add contact information for the organization directly providing the scholarship.
