Scholarship Hub: AI Portfolio & Scholarship Finder

Inspiration

Students have talent, skills, projects, and ambitions, but turning that potential into opportunities can be difficult. Building a professional portfolio often requires technical knowledge, while finding scholarships means searching through multiple websites and trying to keep track of deadlines and eligibility requirements.

I wanted to make these processes easier by creating a platform that helps students present themselves professionally and discover educational opportunities without unnecessary technical barriers.

What It Does

Scholarship Hub brings together two tools designed to support students.

1. No-Code Portfolio Builder

Students can create a professional portfolio without writing code or building a website from scratch. They enter their information and choose from available templates, and the platform uses that information to create a structured portfolio.

This makes it easier for students to showcase their skills, projects, experience, and achievements, even if they have no programming background.

2. Scholarship Discovery

The platform provides an organized space for discovering scholarship opportunities. Students can explore information such as eligibility requirements, degree levels, funding benefits, deadlines, and application links.

The goal is to reduce the effort required to find relevant opportunities and help students make better-informed decisions about their education.

3. AI-Powered Automation

I integrated AI into an automated workflow built with n8n and OpenRouter. The workflow processes scholarship information from online sources, extracts relevant details, and organizes them into structured records for the website.

This approach reduces repetitive manual work and helps transform information from different sources into a consistent format. The workflow also needs to account for incomplete information and duplicate scholarship entries.

How I Built It

The platform uses Next.js for the web application, Supabase for database and backend services, and Vercel for deployment.

I use n8n to connect information sources, AI processing, and database operations. OpenRouter provides access to AI models used in the scholarship-processing workflow.

The portfolio builder follows a template-based approach: students provide their information, choose a template, and receive a portfolio without having to write code themselves.

Combining the website, database, and automation workflow has allowed me to bring portfolio creation and scholarship discovery into one student-focused platform.

Challenges I Faced

One challenge was keeping scholarship information consistent when different sources use different formats. Missing details, duplicate entries, and changing application deadlines require careful data handling.

Another challenge was connecting AI-generated information to a structured database while maintaining the correct fields and avoiding insertion errors.

I also wanted the portfolio creation experience to remain simple. Students should be able to focus on their information and achievements rather than technical implementation.

Working through these challenges helped me understand the importance of validation, reliable integrations, and designing technology around real user needs.

What I Learned

This project helped me develop practical experience with full-stack web development, database integration, AI APIs, and workflow automation.

I also learned that using AI effectively is not just about generating responses. It is about integrating AI into a useful process, combining it with reliable software, and ensuring that the result solves a real problem.

Why It Matters

Scholarship Hub aims to reduce two barriers students can face when pursuing educational and professional opportunities: creating a professional online presence and discovering scholarships.

By combining an accessible portfolio builder with AI-assisted scholarship processing, the platform helps students spend less time dealing with technical complexity and repetitive searches, and more time presenting their abilities and exploring their next steps.

What's Next

I want to improve scholarship data verification, expand the range of information sources, enhance the portfolio templates, and explore more personalized ways to connect students with relevant opportunities.

My goal is simple: make it easier for students to showcase their potential and discover opportunities that can shape their future.
