Inspiration

Finding scholarships can be a frustrating process. Opportunities are scattered across different websites, eligibility requirements can be difficult to understand, and students may miss important deadlines simply because they do not know where to look.

We created Scholarship Hub to address this problem and make educational opportunities easier to discover. Our vision is to help students spend less time searching for information and more time pursuing their academic goals.

What It Does

Scholarship Hub is an AI-powered scholarship discovery platform that brings educational funding opportunities together in one organized place.

The platform is designed to help students explore scholarships, review eligibility requirements, check application deadlines, and access original application links.

Our system combines a web application with an automated data-processing workflow. AI helps extract and organize scholarship information, while a centralized database stores structured records for the website.

Beyond scholarship discovery, our long-term vision is to build a personalized educational ecosystem that connects students with opportunities suited to their backgrounds and ambitions.

How We Built It

We built Scholarship Hub using a modern web and automation stack:

  • Next.js: Provides the website interface and scholarship browsing experience.
  • Supabase: Stores scholarship information and supports database operations.
  • n8n: Orchestrates automated workflows for collecting and processing scholarship information.
  • OpenRouter and AI models: Support the extraction and organization of scholarship details.

Our workflow is designed to collect information from configured sources, process relevant details with AI, and prepare structured records for the scholarship database.

We are also developing better duplicate detection, deadline verification, and automatic record updates to improve the reliability of the information presented to students.

Challenges We Faced

One of our main challenges was designing an automated workflow that could process scholarship information from different sources without creating duplicate records.

Another challenge was organizing unstructured information into consistent database fields, including scholarship titles, eligibility requirements, funding details, deadlines, and application links.

We also had to consider the reliability of AI-generated information. Scholarship deadlines and eligibility requirements must be handled carefully because incorrect information could cause students to miss opportunities.

These challenges helped us recognize that a useful AI application needs more than a language model. It also needs structured data, validation, reliable automation, and thoughtful handling of uncertainty.

What We Learned

Through this project, we explored how web development, databases, workflow automation, and AI can work together to solve a real-world problem.

We learned the importance of data normalization, duplicate prevention, database consistency, and separating verified information from details that still require confirmation.

Most importantly, we learned to approach AI as part of a larger system rather than treating it as a complete solution on its own.

What's Next

Scholarship Hub is evolving toward a more personalized educational platform. Our planned improvements include:

1. Scholarship Intelligence

Improve automated collection, detect duplicate opportunities, verify deadlines against relevant sources, update existing records, and manage expired scholarships more reliably.

2. Student Profiles and Personalized Matching

Allow students to create profiles containing their education, field of study, skills, languages, interests, preferred countries, and funding preferences. Use these profiles to identify potentially suitable scholarships.

3. Explainable Recommendations

Show students why a scholarship may match their profile, highlighting compatible requirements and identifying eligibility details that remain uncertain.

4. Portfolio Builder and AI Portfolio Reviewer

Help students create portfolios and receive suggestions for improving their presentation of projects, skills, and achievements.

5. AI Scholarship Advisor

Develop a profile-aware assistant that answers scholarship questions using available scholarship records and links to relevant sources.

6. Student Community

Create a space where students can share application experiences, study-abroad advice, portfolio tips, and lessons learned.

These are planned enhancements, not claims that every feature is already implemented.

Scholarship Hub aims to make scholarship information more accessible, more organized, and more useful—helping students take the next step toward their future.
