Inspiration

Scholarship opportunities are often scattered across different websites, each with different eligibility requirements, deadlines, and application processes. Students can spend hours searching and still miss opportunities that could be a good fit. We built ScholarAI to make this process simpler. Our goal was to create an AI-powered platform that helps students discover scholarships that are relevant to their individual profiles instead of forcing them to search through hundreds of opportunities manually.

What it does

While building ScholarAI, we learned how AI can be applied to a practical problem beyond simple chatbots. We explored how to use user profiles, scholarship information, eligibility criteria, and AI-powered matching to create a more personalized experience. We also learned that building a useful AI product requires more than generating responses—it requires reliable information, clear user flows, and presenting complex results in a way that users can quickly understand and act on.

How we built it

ScholarAI combines a user profile with scholarship discovery and AI assistance. Users provide relevant information about their academic background, interests, field of study, location, and goals. The platform then uses this information to identify and present relevant scholarship opportunities. Each opportunity provides important details such as eligibility requirements, deadlines, funding information, and application details. An integrated AI assistant helps users understand requirements and navigate the scholarship-search process. Our focus was on creating a clean, practical interface where the AI works behind the scenes and the student can focus on finding and applying for opportunities.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was making scholarship matching useful rather than simply returning a large list of results. Scholarships can have complex and different eligibility requirements, so identifying relevant opportunities requires careful consideration of multiple criteria. Another challenge was designing the experience so that students are not overwhelmed by information. We focused on organizing scholarship details clearly and making the most important information easy to find. We also had to think about the reliability of AI-generated information. For a platform involving real scholarship opportunities and deadlines, accuracy and transparency are essential.
