Inspiration
What inspired me was the amount of athletes that get kicked out of their sport because they didn't have good grades. This broke my heart because no one should have to give up their passion.
What it does
Schol-etes helps student athletes to study and manage their time. There is a planner that is customizable, so the user can add tasks to each day and edit the dates of the week. They can then download their planner as a pdf! Schol-etes also has resources for studying like a text-to-speech feature for students to hear their papers and essays out loud.
How I built it
I built this project with HTML, Bootstrap, CSS, and JavaScript. It is a simple multi page website built on VSCode. I also used the html2pdf library so that users can downloader their custom planners. I used boxicons for the icons within this website.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges I ran into was the text-to-speech feature. I wanted a text-to-speech feature that could be paused and resumed, at first it worked but then it stopped. It took me quite a while to figure out the problem and a lot of searching on stack-overflow. I also had some difficulty with the design aspect of this project. This was my second time using Bootstrap to design a website so I got lost in the sheer amount of classes bootstrap has to offer but the documentation Bootstrap offers was quite helpful!
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that I finished this project! I thought that I overestimated my abilities but I used my skills to my full abilities and finished in time!!
What we learned
I learned more about how to include Bootstrap into a multi page website, how to utilize the text-to-speech functionality in JavaScript, and how to create a downloadable planner. I used the html2pdf library to convert an html div to a pdf.
What's next for Schol-etes
I plan to expand Schol-etes with user authentication in the future!
