Inspiration
I often find myself walking to the beat of my music. When I like to move fast I listen to fast music and when I like to take my time I listen to slower songs. I figure that I am not the only individual who does that so I wanted to develop an application that would allow other people to have playlists that cater to the speed they want to move at.
What it does
"Schmovin' and Groovin'" (S&G) is an application that allows users to pick their desired genre and walking speed, then have a curated playlist given to them that allows them to enjoy their walk.
How I built it
I built S&G using Xcode and Swift on Mac. I used the Apple development API to my advantage as I worked my way through the tedious process of developing an application.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge that I ran into was a simple lack of time. One person trying to accomplish everything left me sleep deprived and able to accomplish what I originally envisioned. I also had not used Xcode before this so this was a very big learning experience for me.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am very proud that I was able to get a working app at all, despite only having 5 genres I am very happy with the results that I was able to accomplish in essentially one day.
What I learned
I learned a lot about Xcode and application development from this project. I have newfound respect for the individuals who develop these apps on a daily basis. I also learned about the proper way to make an application, make something functional then make it pretty, not the other way around.
What's next for Schmovin' & Groovin'
I would like to increase the amount of genres available to the user, eventually leveraging the Spotify API to build playlists instead of having to rely on pre-made options.
