Scheduly – AI based Web App for Lex Seniors with memory loss

Almost 40% of us will experience some form of memory loss after we turn 65 years old. To combat this issue and help seniors with their daily lives, I created Scheduly. It is a simple-to-use Web App.

Inspiration

Almost 40% of us will experience some form of memory loss after we turn 65 years old. We all either have or know someone’s grand parents suffering from this issue and need help getting through their daily routine such as medications, appointments, etc. I call my grandfather several times a day to take his medications and remind him of doctor’s appointments. Even though we have sophisticated digital apps for all daily functions, remembering your name and password is a fundamental problem for someone who is suffering from loss of memory. To combat this issue and help seniors, I created Scheduly.

What it does

Scheduly uses Artificial Intelligence in the form of Machine Learning to recognizes a user’s face and allows them into a world just designed for them. This includes upcoming medications to take, doctor appointments, senior center events, weather, news, etc.

How I built it

I have coded the App in HTML, CSS and Javascript.

Challenges I ran into

Training a Machine learning model and running it on a commercial PC was a huge challenge. I had to navigate through the speed, delays and responsiveness of the model. Once I trained the model, integrating it into a Webapp that provides a seamless and simplified operation for Seniors was another challenge I had to overcome. Finally integrating APIs for weather, news, etc on top of the App for added functionality slowed the app. I had to recode to improve speed and smooth operation.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I plan to roll out this app commercially, so I can let friends, parents and grandparents use and benefit from it. I hope to make a positive impact to the Senior citizen community.

What I learned

Creating an App for seniors involve understanding their daily routine, challenges, etc. I took on a new perspective in this project by understanding what works better/worse for seniors.

What's next for Scheduly – AI based Web App for Lex Seniors with memory loss

• I plan to design a Mobile App in IOS and Andriod and deploy it in the App store. • Importing medication data from Physicians automatically into Scheduly is a key feature I plan to work on. • Partnering with Senior centers and integrating community events is a feature I plan to work on.
