Inspiration
We were inspired by our levels of disorganization in terms of completing assignments in a timely matter. The idea, presented by our group member Nigist, instantly resonated with all of us. She expressed her frustration with trying to organize all of her assignments for the semester and brought up the idea for "Schedulize".
What it does
Schedulize takes an ics file (a calendar file) from a University/College canvas page and converts it into a sorted excel sheet.
How we built it
We build it purely in C++.
Challenges we ran into
Due to our inexperience with GitHub, we spent many hours trying to understand various issues with merging and overwriting. We ran into many roadblocks early on in the development process. We also had trouble judging whether the time to try and learn new skills would have been worth the reward given the time constraint.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to have a fully functioning project.
What we learned
We learned how to use GitHub in a basic sense. We learned that planning is as important of a part in the development process as actually coding. We also learned that sometimes you have to give up. Really. In the beginning, we had very idealistic visions for our project. After many hours of trying to achieve what were unrealistic goals for our current skill levels, we realized we had to scale it down to something we could do.
What's next for Schedulize/Us
While Schedulize might not make a return, this will not be our last hackathon. We had a blast despite the struggles and long nights (mornings?). Who knows, maybe Schedulize will be back with an improved interface and better functionality.
