Inspiration
The inspiration behind Scent Lab Simulator came from the desire to create an intuitive, interactive, and entirely logic-driven web application for crafting custom perfumes. While AI is powerful, I wanted to explore the beauty of rule-based simulation, precise note-blending ratios, and sensory composition—allowing users to act as master perfumers by experimenting with top, middle, and base fragrance notes.
What it does
- Perfume Blending Simulator: Enables users to combine various fragrance notes and observe how different proportions interact.
- Formula & Requirement Management: Features a clean specification flow for building, adjusting, and testing unique scent profiles without reliance on artificial intelligence.
- Interactive Experience: Provides a responsive interface designed to simulate a real-world digital laboratory environment.
How we built it
- Designed the core logic and architecture focusing on modular component structures and state management.
- Developed the user interface with a clean, responsive layout optimized for seamless interaction.
- Structured software requirements and user journeys to ensure smooth navigation through the blending and formulation steps.
Challenges we ran into
- Balancing the complexity of scent families (top, middle, base notes) with an intuitive user experience.
- Designing a robust state system to handle real-time recipe adjustments and parameter calculations without lag.
What we learned
- Deepened our understanding of structuring software requirements for simulation-based web applications.
- Improved frontend state handling and UI/UX design principles for interactive web tools.
