Inspiration Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) affects millions of Nigerians, yet many warriors suffer in silence due to lack of support, stigma, and poor access to healthcare. We were inspired to build SCDWarrior NG after engaging with communities where warriors expressed feelings of being forgotten. Our mission is to amplify their voices and provide a digital support system that connects them to aid, resources, and advocacy.
What it does SCDWarrior NG is a digital platform designed to support individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease across Nigeria by:
Registering warriors for access to aid programs
Allowing supporters to generate and share custom DPs (Display Pictures) to spread awareness
Enabling donations directly to active programs
Displaying real-time data on warrior registration, coverage, and program reach
How we built it We used Bolt.new to rapidly prototype the platform with the following stack:
Frontend: HTML, Tailwind CSS, JavaScript
Backend: Supabase for real-time database and authentication
Deployment: Hosted using Vercel (or Netlify)
Design: Figma for UI/UX wireframes
We prioritized accessibility, responsive design, and ease of registration for both warriors and donors.
Challenges we ran into Sourcing accurate data about warriors across different Nigerian states
Designing for low-bandwidth areas where many users live
Ensuring the platform maintains privacy while encouraging public support
Building trust in digital donations for health-related causes
Accomplishments that we're proud of Registered over 2,800 warriors in the initial test phase
Reached 28 states with awareness programs
Enabled donations to 12 active programs
Created a simple but powerful DP generator to boost visibility for warriors
Developed the entire platform within the hackathon timeline
What we learned The power of empathy in building human-centered tech solutions
How to use Supabase to manage real-time data and user accounts
How impactful even small contributions can be in the lives of under-supported communities
The importance of design thinking when building for healthtech in Nigeria
What's next for SCDWarrior Launch a mobile-first version of the platform
Partner with healthcare providers for direct care referrals
Introduce warrior storytelling features to humanize the data
Onboard local NGOs and donors as verified partners
