We were inspired by Pokemon Go, but instead of finding Pokemon in random locations, we make the user search for random objects.
What it does
The Raspberry Pi camera captures images when the user presses take a picture and sends the encoded image to Microsoft Cognitive API which recognizes the image and displays several strings that pertain to the object. We used Flask web framework to host the app. If the string includes the random thing that the user was told to look for, then the user receives points.
How we built it
We 3-d printed glasses and a raspberry pi 3 case and mounted them together.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble getting a static IP address in order to ssh into the Raspberry Pi 3.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were successfully able to connect the camera to the raspberry pi, take photos and send the photos to Microsoft's API, and accumulate points for the user when the user found the correct item and took an accurate image.
What we learned
We discovered how to use a raspberry pi along with the camera, and how to use the Microsoft Cognitive API.
What's next for Scavenger
We can make Scavenger a way for tourists to find attractions and we can create a mobile multiplayer game where people can compete for points.
